Sofer (Torah scribe) in Kona to repair KBS Torah scroll
February 5 @ 9:30 am - 5:30 pm
As with other things we use, our Torah must have regular care. In 2006, she was restored by sofer Rabbi Moshe Druin in Florida. Now, in 2019, the scroll needs maintenance again: there are some small rips that could get larger, and the lettering needs to be checked for wear. Happily, Rabbi Druin is coming to Kona to make the needed repairs and check the rest of the Torah. Please join us at any time during this daylong event at the Hawaiian Queen Coffee Garden on Henry Street. He will be there from about 9 or 9:30 AM until pau.
Rabbi Druin will also give a class on Torah maintenance and skills for steps we can appropriately take to protect our living Torah. He calls the class “Holy Rollers.” Check it out at soferonsite.com or on Facebook. If you want to attend the “Holy Rollers” class, please email Vic Greenspan. The exact time for the class will be announced later and there is no charge. If you have any other questions use the same email address.
Come on site any time all day to watch the Sofer work, to see, talk, listen and learn. Rabbi Druin is knowledgable and has fascinating details about the many Torah scrolls he has seen.
After his work is done, we gather to meet the Sofer in the late afternoon or early evening of February 5, so plan to bring the children after school for this unique, exciting experience.
