As we look back on events of the year gone by, one of the saddest that touched us profoundly, close to home, was the sudden passing of Mark “Bernie” Bernstone, beloved son of KBS members Ruth and Mike Bernstone. Bernie played a major role in implementing and running the revised KBS website, always ready to lend a hand with whatever was needed. His expertise, his enthusiasm and his genuine passion will be sorely missed.

In the spirit of giving this High Holiday season, we invite the Kona Beth Shalom ohana to honor Bernie’s memory by donating to the following charitable organizations that were near and dear to his heart:

Camp Maurice B. Shwayder, near Mt. Evans, Colorado – Temple Emanuel of Denver’s summer camp for Jewish youth,  attended by and loved by Bernie, who returned as a counselor after his camper days.

Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League in West Palm Beach, Florida – A no-kill facility now caring for Bernie’s beloved two cats and seeking new homes for them.
