April Shabbat Service – Sh’mini
April 26 @ 10:30 am - 1:30 pm

Join with KBS members, friends and guests for our April Shabbat service led by Aviva Plaut, with Rabbi Shari Joy Berman reading from this week’s parashah: Sh’mini – שְּׁמִינִי (“Eighth”) Vayikra/Leviticus 9:1 – 11:47 – which includes the sudden and dramatic deaths of Aaron’s sons Nadab and Abihu for the sin of using “strange fire” in the Tabernacle. The parashah also introduces the rules of kashruth, listing the animals that may or may not be eaten (eagles are not kosher and neither are geckos, but grasshoppers are OK!).
Aviva will speak about her recent month-long visit to Israel, reflecting on the current events and attitudes in the land she knows so well.
Afterward, stay for a Kiddush & Kibbitz potluck. If you can, please bring a dish to share (but no meat or shellfish). If you are unable to attend in person, the service will also be live-streamed via Zoom and on the KBS Facebook page. Zoom connection information will be provided via email.
