CONGREGATION KONA BETH SHALOM is in The Shops at the Mauna Lani, Suite 109, at 68-1330 Mauna Lani Drive, Kamuela, HI 96743. This luxury mall is found just past the traffic circle half a mile inside the Mauna Lani turn-off from the highway. We are located on the second floor, next to the Monstera Japanese Restaurant. There’s plenty of free parking, and there is an elevator for handicap access. We conduct Shabbat Services on the fourth Saturday morning of each month, starting at 10:30 am. We also celebrate Jewish holidays and other events at this location.
THE BIG ISLAND OF HAWAII Hawaii Island (called “The Big Island,” “Orchid Island,” or “Volcano Island”) has the largest land area, over 4,000 square miles, which is somewhat larger than Connecticut. The main town on the Kona coast is Kailua-Kona. The city of Hilo is on the eastern coast of Hawaii Island. The word, “Hava i’i,” when spoken in Hebrew, means “Let us have an island.” Both Aloha and Shalom mean hello, goodbye, peace and love. So much about Hawaii feels Jewish. Being Jewish in Hawaii is as natural as watching Creation before your eyes as our volcano erupts, seeing fish in the ocean that look hand-painted by HaShem, and experiencing true relaxation and renewal on Shabbat in the most beautiful place on Earth. Kona Beth Shalom has been West Hawaii’s Jewish Congregation since before 1985.
