Torah Study: Vayeira
October 31 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm
Lot’s Wife by Paolo Giandoso
The first book of the Torah continues this week with Vayeira / וַיֵּרָא “And I Appeared,” B’reisheet/Genesis 18:1-22:24, in which Abraham unsuccessfully tries to talk God out of destroying Sodom and Gomorrah; Abraham’s nephew Lot and his family escape the firestorm, but Lot’s wife disobeys the command not to look back and is turned into a pillar of salt (above); Isaac is born to Sarah in her old age and, in one of the Torah’s most challenging chapters, God tests Abraham, ordering him to sacrifice his beloved son at a mountaintop altar.
We’ll read and discuss Vayeira this coming Saturday on Zoom. No prior knowledge is necessary and a variety of views is welcome. Scroll down for Zoom connection info.
